Indonesia, a tropical paradise, is welcoming back tourists with open arms. If you’ve been yearning for a getaway to this stunning destination, now is the perfect time to plan your trip. With no proof of vaccination or travel insurance required, traveling to Indonesia has become easier and more accessible than ever before.
No More Travel Restrictions
As of October 2023, Indonesia has abolished all Covid-related requirements for tourists entering the country. This means you no longer have to worry about providing proof of vaccination or travel insurance. Even for domestic flights within Indonesia, there is no longer a need to present proof of vaccination.
However, before you embark on your Indonesian adventure, make sure your passport is valid for at least six months and has two blank pages. Failure to meet these criteria may result in entry refusal. Additionally, while it is officially required to show proof of a return flight, immigration officials rarely request it.
How to Obtain a Visa On Arrival
Most visitors to Indonesia can easily obtain a visa on arrival. To save time and avoid queues at the airport, you have the option to apply for this visa online. Visit the official Indonesian Immigration site, where you can apply and pay for either a 30-day or 60-day visa. To complete the application, you’ll need to upload a photo of your passport’s data page and a passport photo of yourself.
Upon approval, you will receive an email containing a PDF of your evisa. To prevent any inconvenience, take a screenshot of the evisa on your mobile phone, as you may not have immediate access to the internet upon arrival.
At passport control, you may be asked by staff if you have an evisa or a B213, the formal name for the tourism visa on arrival. This is a routine check to ensure you possess the necessary documentation. If you don’t have either, you’ll need to go to the visa on arrival queue and pay for the visa. Be prepared to show your evisa screenshot to the immigration officer as well.
Simplifying Customs Declaration
Once you’ve successfully cleared immigration, you must complete an electronic customs declaration form. The previous paper forms have been replaced with an online system. To save time, fill in the customs declaration online up to three days before your departure. Visit the official Indonesian customs site to complete the form, and remember to save a screenshot of the QR code provided as your receipt. Show the QR code to customs officers for scanning before entering the Arrivals area. If you haven’t filled in the form online, you can do it on your mobile phone at the airport, as wifi is available to access and submit the customs declaration.
Visa-Free Entry for Selected Nationalities
Citizens of certain countries are entitled to visa-free entry to Indonesia. If you hold a passport from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, or Vietnam, you can enjoy a hassle-free visit. For other nationalities, you can purchase a visa on arrival in Indonesia or apply for one online, as mentioned earlier. The cost of a 30-day visa is approximately 500,000 IND, but please note that fees may vary depending on your nationality.
When paying for visas, major currencies such as USD, EUR, GBP, and JPY, as well as Indonesian Rupiah, are accepted in cash. However, credit or debit cards are not accepted at the airport visa on arrival counter. If you choose to apply online, credit cards can be used for payment.
