Places to Visit in My Solo Trip to Cambodia
Come with me as I take you on a journey to explore the hidden beauty treasured for centuries in Cambodia:
Tonle Sap
My adventure began with a memorable visit to Tonle Sap for a captivating floating villages tour. Tonle Sap, a serene freshwater lake connected to the famous Mekong River, offered a mesmerizing experience. The stilted houses made of sticks and bamboo, floating on the water, fascinated me. As I strolled through the stilted villages along the banks of the lake, I couldn’t help but be charmed by the cheerful and friendly locals, especially the children. I even indulged in some delightful noodles at one of the floating restaurants, savoring every moment of my solo trip to Cambodia.
Angkor Wat
A visit to the magnificent Angkor Wat temples was a dream come true. This awe-inspiring temple complex, built in dedication to Lord Vishnu, stands as a symbol of Cambodia’s rich history. It was captivating to witness the intricate architecture and detailed inscriptions on the stones, each telling a unique story. As I explored the grandeur of Angkor Wat, I couldn’t help but admire the skilled craftsmanship and the sense of awe it evoked.
Ta Prohm Temple
As a fan of Tomb Raider, I couldn’t miss the opportunity to visit the legendary Ta Prohm temple, famously known as “the Tomb Raider temple.” This enchanting temple, nestled within the Angkor Archaeological Park, showcased the mesmerizing Bayon architectural style. Walking through its ethereal surroundings, I felt as if I had stepped into a magical realm. And of course, I couldn’t resist the chance to capture countless pictures with the iconic Bayon faces, hoping for a sprinkle of good luck.
Koh Ker and Beng Mealea
My solo adventure took me to the mystical temple complex of Koh Ker, which dates back to the 10th century. Surrounded by lush forests, this temple complex showcased a magnificent 7-tiered pyramid structure, truly a masterpiece of its time. The crumbling yet resilient walls embraced the growth of nature, adding an enchanting allure to the site. I also made a journey to the Beng Mealea temple, known as the Jungle Temple, which felt like a dream come true. The ethereal ambiance of this temple left me completely spellbound.
